Search engine optimization has not been dependent on a minimal number of factors for a long time now, such as number of times a keyword appeared on a page, and it continues to become a more complex web of on and off-page factors every month. One of the more recent factors that has had an impact on search ranking is social media.

    What if you’re not popular? Does having a handful of followers, retweets and comments hurt your PR? I really don’t have the time to spend my life on social media or the money to pay someone else to do it for me.

    The fact that tweeting drastically reduces the time it takes for Googlebot to find you was interesting. That’s one thing I do regularly.

      If you have just one follower it improves your chances drastically, But forget about PR, that is for those who want to drive a Mercedes Benz for the status symbol, it is costly and does nothing for your income. worry about your SERP’s (Search Engine Results Pages) and these are dependent on many factors, with your social signals taking more and more importance as the social world evolves. Ensure that your page has links to your social media marketing profiles, and that your social media profiles return the favour and include your web page within their respective pages.

      Many followers will help you get closer to the top of the pile, but these are not the only factors. Good in page SEO helps, so does the application of the FUFISM philosophy… FUFISM = Functional User Firendly Integrated Social Media

      The trick is to ensure that your social media team use the same keyword base and target market group as the web design team and your blogging team. If these three sections work together as a unit you will do very well in the SERP’s

      Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed the infographic. The infographic was developed and designed by WhiteFireSEO, an online marketing company based in Ogden, Utah, specializing in search engine optimization, social media marketing and online branding.

      Regarding, shortened URLs…they do not hurt or help search engine rankings. However, they do serve to very important roles: 1) Shortened URL’s fit better within the character limits of social media message, such as a tweet. 2) By using a service like bit.ly you can track the number of clicks/engagement that your url gets on social media.

          Hi Nick,

          No, it does not hurt or help SEO. URL shorteners, like bit.ly, use 301 redirects to direct the shorter URL to the full URL. So, search engines only take into account the full URL.

    The new approach to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) uses social signals an awful lot more than it ever did, and the value of your social signals should not be underestimated.

    The value of your authorship tags is also an important factor that most SEOT&P (Search Engine Optimisation Technicians and Practitioners) still ignore.

    This is a good INFO-GRAPHIC, but shorts the issue of FUFISM….
